  1. It’s a sad commentary on the easy gullibility of consumers. The press releases made headlines with claims of lower prices. Yet, in the weeks since the acquisition, there’s no discernible overall difference. Whole Foods is still costlier, its fresh foods (produce, meat, poultry, and fish) remain uncompetitive with lower-priced organic options in other stores, and its appeal to people who want healthier options was always a myth (a vanilla cream sandwich cookie made with organic ingredients is still an Oreo).
